I set up systems, and I teach people to use them.

I'm Umang Gupta, a consultant based in Toronto. I help Canadian law firms adopt AI: choosing the tools, setting them up, and training the people who use them. I've been working hands-on with AI for several years now, and I first worked with it a decade ago, building adaptive learning software early in my career.

Over the past ten years I've worked across product, operations, and strategy — most recently at an upskilling company, where I designed executive upskilling programs with government and private-sector partners. My first job out of school was teaching, though, and it still shows in how I work: I break complicated things down, I'm patient with questions, and I stay until people are genuinely comfortable.

That matters more than it sounds. Getting software installed is the quick part; what usually goes wrong is everything after, when nobody stays to train people, adjust the workflows, or answer questions — and teams quietly struggle with their new software for years. I treat that follow-through as the main part of the job.

I also do the technical work and the planning myself: I implement working systems, train the people who use them, and stay accountable for whether they actually get used.
